The AN-94, or Avtomat Nikonova (Nikova Automatic) is an AK-based rifle chambered with the newer 5.45x39mm. It features an overall complex system, but with a specialized two-round burst capable of having both rounds land in the same exact spot: allowing for deadly penetration. It fires at 1800 rounds per minute for the burst, and slowly drops down to a rate of 600 rpm for fully-automatic fire. Due to its potential accuracy and firepower, it has been given the name "Abakan" after a contest. Its manufacturer would be Izhmash and the Russian Military has decided to adopt the rifle, despite high costs. Unlike most Russian weapons, the AN-94 has no plans for export.
